But since you asked, I'll just do a brain dump and let the chips fall where they may. One option is to do nothing. Just declare we're done with Middle Eastern nation-building. If Iran wants help, they can seek it elsewhere. Syria, Türkiye, Iraq, maybe even Saudi Arabia (though I'm not sure if the Iranians want help from the Saudis). There is some wisdom in doing nothing, by the way. If Trump really is serious about reviving the Monroe Doctrine (I don't think he is, but whatever), he should withdraw from the Middle East, Europe, and Asia, and start conquering the Western Hemisphere. (That would include Greenland, because the board game Risk includes it as part of the North America continent bonus, LOL ...) But this is Trump we're talking about, and he can't resist doing something. Most presidents can't, least of all Trump, so let's talk about "doing something." First of all, we need to build an international coalition. Again, get Syria, Türkiye, and Iraq involved. Jordan and Lebanon, too, FWIW. If China and RuZZia want a say, and they probably will, we need to get ahead of them in the diplomacy game. It's really important that we cannot be the sole owners of the mess that will be created as a result of the revolution. Next, we have to figure out who is going to take charge immediately after the Ayatollah is gone. Maybe the Junior Shah? Rarebird mentioned him, so I guess he'll do. After that, we need to come up with a roadmap for Iran to be governed by its people. You could even call it, oh I dunno, a Western-style democracy that is focused on human rights and rule by law. How that looks should be up to the people of Iran, not by America or anyone else who's halfway around the world. Finally comes the implementation phase. Go in with bombs? We're freakin' good at that. Target government buildings, especially that of the hated "morality police"? Sounds good to me. Whatever looks like juicy targets, we can blow up and minimize friendly casualties. But time is of the essence. Already the assholes in the Iranian government are opening fire on their own people. We gotta put together a plan and fast. In this particular case, I wouldn't mind Trump shooting first and asking questions later. However, I hope he does a better job with the post-war planning than he did with Venezuela. Given Jared Kushner's contacts in the Middle East, it might be possible. I just hope he keeps Israel out of the way. Tenchusatsu P.S. - The "do something" option requires Trump to (a) give up on Greenland, and (b) renounce his "war for oil" shtick that he is trying with Venezuela. I'm not sure he has the mental discipline to do both, but who knows? Maybe Trump's opportunism will temporarily knock some sense into him.
