You mean Craiglist. That turned out to be for merchandise, not for protestors.

There's definitely a skew in the bias of news organizations reporting the rumor. If I had to guess about the involvement of paid protestors, there are influencers and community organizers (eg., Kirk) who get involved in stoking emotions and making calls to protest. The vast majority are unpaid. The influencer, community organizers, and their key people on the ground are supported by PACs. It's similar to what we've seen in Iran with Israeli government officials and news media openly making a public call for Iranians to march alongside Mossad agents and assets.
