when people eat snow for water, it uses more energy

Not merely "uses more energy". Snow water actually whacks up the biochemical reactions along the way it travels as it lowers surrounding tissues' temperature to be sub-optimal for enzymes to work.

Avoid cold drinks as much as we could.
