beta, we see the tech's merits ... the relative merit of MPEG3 is the subject... a poster suggested that MPEG3 was superior to RNWK's standard, and threatened to supplant it ...

Do you have a view on the relative merits/demerits of RAM and MPEG3?

Hello Beta,

You are a person after my own heart! *YOU* are a visionary that understands ...

You stated:

> If you guys can't see the prospects of this technology you've got
> rocks in your head. Everyone gets their own TV station. Unlimited
> discretionary broadcast of any content you wish.
> Now that's something.

Several years ago at a NetWorld+Interop I was involved in a discussion about DSS Television and the impact on society. Someone indicated that there would be 1000's of tv channels to choose from. Being that I had been using CUSeeMe (from WPNE) for quite some time I indicated that there would be billions of tv channels to choose from! Anyone with an Internet connection will be able to create a "channel" and if they want to they will even charge for it! Some will be free if you agree to allow advertising ...

The infrastructure of ISPs and hierarchical caching will allow this to happen! I'll be able to stream multimedia from my house to a cache at my ISP that will feed other caches ... based on demand for my broadcast! And the current models developing around advertising and internet technologies will fund the "broadcasting" ...

If you want to see a good RNWK example, go to pirate-radio.co.uk ... these guys are charging DJs, in London, $10/hour for the "priviledge" to play music *live* to a world audience. I have been to two parties now where this is playing on a big screen projector with the audio on the stereo ...

We are getting closer ... ;-)
