Studies have shown that rain has little effect
on LMDS service under LOS conditions. However,
for service which relies on a non-LOS path
(such as a bounce off building walls), there
appears to be an effect. The solution is to
rely on reflectors. For digital LMDS service,
I would expect that rain has even less of an effect,
due to the ability to use error correction schemes.
So your assessment that weather does not have much
of an effect is absolutely correct. On the other
hand, foliage is a major problem.

<is the problem exaggerated or does it only show up at higher frequencies?> It would seem the problem would get worse as the frequency gets higher, however WinStar says it is no problem at 38 Ghz. Turn up the power a little if weather gets to be a factor. I think the companies testing LMDS have found rain to be no problem. LOS and foliage, yes, rain, no.

Mark, Mr. Jepson of WinStar e-mailed me back and refused to give me a better list of their licenses. Not something they normally distribute...So you've got the best I have or can get.
Did you ever get a list together comparing WinStar's and ARTT's licenses and market coverages? I'd be interested in it when you do.

Whoops, I see that Bernard beat me to it, and he knows a hell of a lot more than I do.

PS Just heard Hoexter (GS) raises ICIX with target of 95.
