it takes a huge tolls on engines

A good friend of mine worked on the construction of the Alaska pipeline, way back when. He was a diesel mechanic and heavy equipment operator. He told me that during the coldest months, they never shut off the engines in the excavators, loaders, etc. They not only fueled them, but changed their oil while they were running.

I experienced -40 temps when I was younger, but even though I like cold weather, those kind of extremes would be too much for me now..
