The report I heard CNBC on the IBM/AMD topic said that Reuter's reported that they are in early to mid-early discussions for IBM to "co-produce" the K6. Both IBM and AMD declined comment.

Quick reaction - unless AMD comes up with an alternative to their present situation they are toast, so an IBM deal would save their butts and keep them alive. Such an arrangement would keep up the competitive pressure on Intel and therefore the market will likely grow even faster than if AMD were to disappear. This is good for Intel. The USJD will likely prefer Intel to continue to have some competition. Also good for Intel. JMO.

Jim, >>>My customers used to purposefully bought inferior products at even higher prices than mine just so the alternative suppliers would stay in business...they thought that was fair. Not to have just one supplier, that is.<<<

Makes a lot of sense. Imagine what it would be like if you could buy PC's only from Compaq and nowhere else.
