Tulvio,

RE:The laboratory achievement does not mean that the KrF laser is useful in a production .08 micron tool.

Minor correction: an ArF laser was used.

Your points are well taken. The real significance here, to me, is not how soon the production machine will be available or how soon the device designs can be created that take advantage of these feature sizes. To me, the real significance is the validation of the DUV laser technology roadmap.

There is production life to the DUV excimer laser demonstrated by an industry heavyweight (Dr. Wilson) and a demonstration that there is a very healthy extended life for DUV lithography. It also doesn't hurt to have it funded by SEMATECH. This is what is exciting to me. No one is running out today to stock up on CYMI lasers but the market has been put on notice that CYMI will be on the map for numerous years and that the technology is not a flash in the pan like "pet rocks". CYMI has a healthy future. Now we wait for our just rewards, even if we need to take into the next century.
