Mondale to Press Indonesia's Suharto on U.S. Concerns

<< Former U.S. Vice President Walter Mondale will deliver a stern message to Indonesia warning of the U.S. concern for the current economic climate there, said Deputy Treasury Secretary Lawrence Summers. ''It's certainly going to be a message that reflects our very grave concern about the situation in Indonesia,'' said Summers in an interview on CNBC. It will be ''a message that recognizes that we have important interests in developments in Indonesia.''

President Bill Clinton named Mondale to lead a delegation of Treasury and State Department officials to Jakarta to speak with Indonesia's President Suharto about his nation's economic troubles. The group, which includes Undersecretary of the Treasury for international affairs David Lipton, is scheduled to leave Saturday. >>
