Jim P: what kinda dope you smoking? AMD will make zip on this deal and since they have been making zip how long will investors and others hang on? NOT until hell freezes over. AMD is headed down after they see how much they WON'T make from this deal. Wanna buy some swamp front land? I will NOT take AMD shares in trade brah.

Thanks Jim,your point is well taken but I don't think I am 'missing this market' as I have no interest in AMD other than watching them from a distance for their mediocre capacity to provide some lackluster competition to Intel in the microprocessor market.

Jim,

This is a perfect example of nothing really changing and everyone getting worked up anyway. AMD and IBM have probably been discussing this sort of foundry deal for awhile and who knows how long it will take before the deal is worked out and wafers start running. I would not expect to see much output from IBM before next year and by that time, who knows if the K6 will be any more viable than the MediaGX or the 6x86MX are now.

At least, this AMD rally should last longer than the last one spawned by an IBM announcement.

Richard

Jim,
Good concept, but it is quite unlikely that you can project AMD out for 2 + years to do well. They have never had a run of more than a couple of good quarters in the processor market, and Intel is increasing the heat with better processes, new socket, and new designs. The trouble AMD has had building their parts so far will only get worse. However, having IBM fab them can help, but at not enough of a good price to generate the profits they need to continue to keep pace with Intel. JMHO.

Jim, these are all reasonable points. I've seen it happen so often - the market discounts reality to generate commissions, AMD (not just AMD, of course, but for purposes of illustration) jumps 50%, earnings are announced and AMD does the death swoon from Swan Lake. The nimble live for this environment, and having followed this routine myself (although not w/AMD), I know that it can be profitable. And risky.

Watch, soon we will see PRU hyping AMD (again) and downgrading INTC (again). Shameless, these touts, but their jobs are secure.
