I never thought of it before either, but I can see the logic. We did not do anything to "earn" our body we were born into. It was given to us, like a gift, the great gift of life, and we have a responsibility to maintain, value and nurture that gift the same way we would look after and maintain a gift of a coat from our spouse, we wear it in pride and honour and thanks for her gift and love for us. Whether sees it religiously or not, it is a good way of maintaining a healthy and happier life, treat our body with respect, and treat others bodies in the same way, their bodies too being a gift from a loved one.
