Respond to of 197638 Perhaps..... Also, between the safety and security issues, nukes aren't anywhere near a turnkey solution. No one wants to mention security, since examples of present day nukes would be sensitive. But, suffice it to say, nuke containments can be a convenient target of micreants, if the "guard" is relaxed. And, guarding costs money, both in infrastructure (ties in to safety) as well as in physicial/guard people. And the quiet/suppressed part: physical perimeters. Lots of real estate. Vogtle has over 3000 acres for its three 1.5GW units. Diablo Canyon very similar for its two 1.25GW units.. The investment community is being led to believe "simply build the package and drop off at the data center site." Totally unrealistic. The NIMBY crowd is already raising concerns over noise from data center chiller fans and blowers. Add even a hint that a packaged nuke will appear near a proposed data center? The roar of gas turbines will be childs' play in comparison. I remember the decades of public outcry over Diablo Canyon. The utility installed an elaborate, radio controlled siren warning system....covering about 400 square miles. To be used in the even of a containment failure and airborne release. The sirens were powered from a source unrelated to the nuclear plant. Not sure if Vogtle has such a warning system. But, think about it. A warning system for public evacuation, if needed. Will the packaged nuke people have an answer for loss of coolant and containment accidents or sabateurs? No, sending out a cell phone message probably won't be good enough.....
