It looks like Fujitsu is taking the DVD functions from the Pioneer multi-chip DVD solution, and just putting them all on one chip. This brute-force approach can take up a lot of silicon real-estate, resulting in a high-priced chip. In contrast, CUBE's architecture was designed from the ground up as a single-chip solution. Fujitsu ain't going to sell many at 8,000 yen ($63), unless the yen is devalued one helluva lot between now and March. (If you're counting, that's one business day in the U.S.)
