Thanks, I've seen those proxy server dialog boxes all over the place, but it just didn't connect (until your message) that these would apply to a small lan like mine. In addition to the desktops here, I have a laptop that must be able to access the net when not attached and I want to make sure that this machine's dial-up abilities remain idiot proof. Sounds like just a tweaking is needed.

The com sharing device we use controls outbound switching between three modems and a stand-alone fax. It also allows incoming calls to be directed to the correct modem using a security code. A lot of SOHOs once used these things to share a phone line among voice,fax and data before modems started getting so smart.
