>>So I don't have to keep track of where my money is going by saving the receipts from waffle and donuts.<< You don't either with a Smart Card. >>Plus, no one still can argue the point I made. The CC companies would start losing money because FINANCE CHARGE and LATE FEES would reduce. That's the FREE money that they get and hefty one too.<< You're absolutely right but the point is in Europe MERCHANTS USUALLY REFUSE you pay items priced under $30 with a credit card. That's because of the high flat fee they pay to VISA, MC, AE. Plus, phone communications are expensive here. I had the case yesterday when buying a bunch of flowers for my wife. The woman refused my VISA because the flowers cost $18. The penalty for using Smart Cards is much lower for merchants. But I understand the points of everybody here. The thing is CC use is very different in Europe and the US. FYI, I don't use a Company CC. If I got one, my habits would change slightly, I would use the Company CC, not mine. But I would still use my SCard to pay for small items. There's a small shop on the corner of my street, 20 meters from where I live, I go there whenever I need bread, milk, drinks I forgot at the supermarket. Like most little shops they don't take VISA but accept debit cards and SCards. The widespread use of SmartCard as a mean for paying goods is thus a result of paying habits, fees charged to users on both sides of the transaction (SC and DC are free for consumers). Banksys, the Belgian company which developed the SC as a payment system, is the world leader, they already announced tens of deals with South American and Asian countries in addition to many European countries. This company has been making record profits for the last ten years BUT IS NOT QUOTED!!! Before I close this message, I would like to ask a stupid question but it really interests me : do people in the US really pay a donut with a CC? (why not?)
