Phillips Carin/TRMB product v. Orbi's Pathmaster

If you go to www.carin.com you will find a useful site on the features and capabilities of the CarIn car navigation product. Having used the Hertz Neverlost system, I was able to put the CarIn product in a better perspective.

CarIn looks a bit more complex, although that may be an artifact of reviewing it over a computer screen. It seems to have a few obvious advantages over Neverlost: It allows multipoint routing (up to 25 intermediate points can be requested) and it seems to recalculate your route on the fly if you get off course. It also allows you to select a secondary route if you find yourself stuck in traffic on your primary route.

In the FAQ section, it says that fleet management capability will be added in "late 1997." I suspect a Cross-Check tie in here. It also promises "dynamic" routing coming soon. Not sure what that is, but it may be an upgrade to recalculating routes without driver input. It's all worth a look.

I'm also told it speaks to the driver in a pleasant female voice.
