This type of graph is known as a Japanese Candlestick Graph: it plots open, high, low, and close. High and low are shown by a vertical line, while open and close are shown as either hollow or filled boxes. If the box is hollow, then the closing price was higher than the opening price. If the box is filled then the closing price was lower than the opening price. A series of solid or hollow boxes indicates trends. Hope this helps. Nathan.
