Intel is 'NOT' a commodity company ?? That's certainly something new to me !

Intel, a few years ago, only produced x86 CPU and motherboards, was considered a commodity company - therefore its P/E was actually very low at that time - something like around 10.

Recently, it diversified into higher-end stuffs and entered Networking. And Networking (believe it or not) commands a higher p/e than semi-conductors. That's why p/e of Intel ramed up to 20 in these couple years - its share prices quadrupled with basically flat earnings and revenues.

Apparently, intels' ventured into Networking has so far been a flop, but people had forgotten why it deserved a higher p/e in the first place and continue to bid up its price.

FWIW just my 2 cents.
