Barry, IMO,long term, the future of K6 will depend on VIA technology.
VIA will manufactre 100 mhz motherboards for K6.AMD will aslo need enough ISP to support the new motherboards. INTEL will be hit if AMD draw more ISP support on thier new 100 mhz motherboard then INTEL's (440BX). We shall tell by how many box makers and ISPs line up when INTEL launch 350 mhz PII next month.

I also feel that financial troubled AMD come to IBM is in a similar situation as SAMSUM comes to INTEL for help .

By May, we will see Pentium 266 (Covinton) sell below $800. P II sell close to $1000. Plus they will be built with graphic card support direct AGp. This doesn't look like much space left for AMD.

This whole AMD/IBM thing is so BS, the same thing happened when IBM said it was going to start using the K6 in its' lower priced machines,AMD jumped about 6pts that day to about 42, creating the best short situation in the known universe[I think it went straight down to 18]. Intel is the common denominator linking all these companies [DELL,GTW,CPQ,IBM,etc.], so buy the dips and then dip the "chips" in the bank...M

Barry - Re: "Does anyone else see anything that I am missing ?"

Well, perhaps you did or did not mention that AMD will most likely release an Earnings Warning - actually, another impending loss - which is the underlying reason that AMD has to go to IBM for a bail out.

Second, Compaq is an AMD customer. IBM is a Compaq competitor. If Compaq realizes that the K6's they get from AMD are are actually products made by their competitor IBM, they might give a long hard look to bailing out not only AMD but IBM AS WELL.

Every K6 Compaq buys may put $40 or $50 into IBM's bank account.

Your enemy's (Intel) enemy may be your "friend" (AMD), but your friend's friend (IBM) may be your enemy.

My guess is Compaq will wind down their AMD relationship.
