Thanks for your thoughts. Aren't Hitachi and Fujitsu affected by the liquidity crisis in Japan/Asia? Won't they have to pull in their horns at some point? Granted that they are huge companies. But they also are diversified companies in many capital intensive, highly competitive areas. Are they really ready to duke it out in drives, an area where they aren't even close to number 1 or number 2? The same goes for Maxtor, although I think to an greater extent, since Korea Inc's problems are currently more intense that Japan Inc's problems.

But IBM is certainly a threat to reckon with. I don't know how to assess them.

I have heard it said that Porter and trend Focus are supply side forecasters. That is that they focus on the supply side for their info., While IDC actually talks to large OEMs (or demand side). Is there any truth to this as far as you know? Do these forecasters typically diverge a lot, or are they within 10& of each other?
