Pat,

I am not familiar with technology, could you shed some light on ATM v/s TDM. I see a good chance to fill the gap to 26. ASND might just break out above 40. If that happens good move could be expected on rest except CSCO. May be investor could be getting out of CSCO and get into NN, ASND, COMS and rest of the group.

Thanks

Pat,

Thanks for the CC review. Very helpful to all I am sure.

It sounds as if management is saying the right things.

I am curious about two things.

Did Peter Sommerer speak on the call and how much Did Peter C. contribute? My question revolves around the need for some reorganization and whether their are any subtle shifts in executive responsibilities.

I saw a quote from TM that says when things get ugly you get an axe which to his credit is what he did with UB but....he seems very reluctant to change management despite these very poor results and decisions that result in the lack of investor confidence.

I believe they are perfectly positioned to be tremendously successful (good products, great market) and now it comes down to out managing their competitors to win a dominant share. The premium is now on operational management to win the day against Cisco.

To appreciate the effect of Cisco Flu all one has to do is look at the three largest competitors in the traditional LAN business, 96 vs 97.

Sales growth Profit growth
Bay 10% 0%
3com 13% -87%
Ctron 9% -71%

Cisco 45% 32%

I believe this flu will begin to effect the WAN companies in the upcoming years with cross hairs on Ascend and Newbridge. (Cisco is a significant reason why UB is no longer a viable entity when at one time they were considered 3com and Synoptic's equal.)

I would like to hear a greater acknowledgement of managements role in NNs future success rather than TMs golf course/hotel complex and the design wins story. I would feel a lot better if they were focusing their efforts on preventing more management stumbles with (Cisco) hot on their heels.

IMO

Mark
