Try this on for size - if the stakes in competing (or not competing) in the larger arena are larger than the stake held in MRVC then the rational thing to do is take on the larger arena...and perhaps sell the stake in MRV.

Intel's "investment" in MRVC is ONLY 200K shares. That is NOTHING for Intel, who has 5 billion in cash.
