RESEARCH ALERT-Hutchinson Tech downgraded CHICAGO, Feb 27 (Reuters) - John G. Kinnard & Co said on Friday it downgraded Hutchinson Technology Inc to buy from strong buy. -- Analyst Clint Morrison said he was not surprised the company's second-quarter earnings would fall short of expectations, but said the length of the current trough in the business cycle is longer than anticipated and longer than past troughs. -- Said extra time frame and added uncertainty led to downgrade. -- Hutchinson said on Thursday it recorded a net loss of $0.56 a share through first eight weeks of the second quarter of fiscal 1998. According to First Call, analysts had been expecting a $0.57 per share loss for the whole quarter.
