Headline: On-Line Reports Say Apple To Cut Prices On Powerful G3 Machines

======================================================================
NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- Apple Computer Inc. is expected to lower the
price of its powerful G3 computers by up to 17%, as the computer maker
prepares to roll out new products, according to on-line news reports.
Apple (AAPL) officials weren't available for comment Thursday.
C/Net, an on-line news publication that covers the computer industry,
earlier this week reported price cuts ranging up to 17% on desktop and
minitower versions of Apple Computer's Power MacIntosh line. The price
cuts cited by C/Net range from $150 to $500.
Apple claims its G3 line of computers is faster and cheaper than
equivalent PCs based on Intel Corp.'s Pentium II chips. The firm said it
has shipped 133,000 G3 machines since November. Apple said it had
forecast it would sell 80,000 G3 computers in the quarter.
The G3 series sells for between $2,000 and $5,700. They use a new
PowerPC microprocessor running at a speed of up to 266 megahertz.
On-line news reports and First Call analysts' reports also predicted
Apple will introduce new products, including servers.
