Pfizer Inc (NYSE: PFE - news) today announced that it is exploring strategic options for the company's Medical Technology Group (MTG). The company said the options include the divestiture of all or part of the businesses in a public or private transaction.

What should this do for PFE, and why would they decide to take this action at this point in time?

What is the companies history of making this sort of announcement; do it always result in a sale? (I.E. Coty, Valleylab)

Any other insights are appreciated....
Thanks,
