Joint venture between Motorola, Siemens and others regarding FeRAM??

Lou,

I came across this article in the Feb. 98 issue of Byte magazine:

byte.com

There's a section that discusses a joint venture between Motorola,
Siemens and others regarding FeRAM. I have to admit I'm a little
confused on this. Is this venture in direct competition with RMTR's
FRAM or is RMTR somehow tied into this effort? I was under the
impression that RMTR was at least 2 years ahead of anybody else with ferroelectric technology. Additionally, just by them calling it FeRAM
makes it appear as though they are avioding the RMTR trademark of
"FRAM" and closely parralleling themselves with the RMTR technology.
Do I have reason to be concerned? Whats going on here?
Do you or anybody have any comments?

Also, the last paragraph of the article will probably interest Neil.
It makes mention of Sun Microsystems, Mondex etc. and appears
to be closely tied to the RMTR press release of a few weeks ago.
If I'm not mistaken, RMTR is involved in this particular effort.

Doug

So what's the discount? What a nasty omission.
