More Adverse Publicity: BusinessWeek (March 9 Issue) page 32. The headline reads "Wireless Goes Haywire at Motorola" The article's gist is that Motorola's wireless technology is supposed to be its strongsuit but is instead turning out to be its albatross. It quotes one Motorola executive as saying "It's the freaking Titanic over here" Then it mentions the iceberg already reported in the WSJ, the PrimeCo account worth $500 million. It says that rival Lucent Technologies is expected to get the business, one of the biggest orders in the industry. According to the article, Furman Selz has slashed 1998 earnings from $2.80 to $2.38 and 1999 earnings from $3.80 to $2.80. The rest of the business is experiencing worse-than-expected performance accordng to their analyst Susan Kalla.

It sounds to me like Motorola is down but not out. Expect more weakness on Monday as the stampede takes over. Does a $30 Billion company have the resources to right the ship? You bet they do. Will management take the necessary steps? Who Knows? Look at IBM, it can be done. Is this a buying opportunity? only for long term investors
