Today's date is listed on dell's split release for 'shareholders of record'

Someone tell me, does this mean if i buy dell tomorrow that I will not participate in the split? how could that be??

Don't worry about that. You can't buy Dell tomorrow because it's Saturday. Ha ha, that's my idea of a joke.

Seriously, though, don't worry. When you buy stock you buy all the rights to that stock held by the seller. So the warrants for the other half of the post-split stock magically and instantaneously travel along with the pre-split stock no matter how many times it's sold between the record date and the split date.

Somebody out there knows why the record date is relevant. I don't.
