Because of the way Wind River announces earnings, the conference call is always more important than the release. Therefore, it is no surprise that the stock has recovered ever since the conference call began since it was very positive.

A couple of highlights from the call:

- The competitive landscape remains unchanged. In fact, Wind would prefer its competitors to do better so they could help expand the overall market. Windows CE is still mostly noise. Customers telling Wind that they feel CE is a mix between desktop and palmPC. PC philosophy not appropriate in the embedded industry.

- Wind has its hand in all cable modem and 1/2 DSL accounts. Whichever technology ends up winning the high speed modem war Wind will still end up on top.

- I2O on schedule. IxWorks has no competitors at this time. Intel began shipping in Q4. Digital,Symbios to ship by mid-year.

- Relationship with Cisco is beyond just cable modems (I think). Ron mentioned that Cisco has always used their own home grown RTOS, but has recently started using VxWorks for 1/2 dozen products as requirements become more complex. This looks like potentially a huge win for Wind River. They mentioned that Cisco was already a "large 6 figure" customer.

- They are working on an automotive strategy. They don't want to talk about it now, but they might announce something in the next three months.

- NCI GUI purchase should produce product for Wind within the next 2 quarters. They were very enthusiastic about the amount of potential business that could result from having an interactive GUI on top of VxWorks.

- Jetsend is an interesting technology but it still is early in the game.

- Wind River has a 90 day backlog. Translation? Wind has already made Q1.

Jason
