Fully integrated oil companies such as Exxon, which make more money on their refining operations when the price of crude is down have much less volatility than the price of crude. I'm not saying that there is no correlation, but look at XON now. It is 63 and change and less than 10% from it's all time high. The price of oil is nowhere near it's all time high. It is at least less than half of it's all time high.
