Sadly this is all too true. I was referring purely to network
bandwidth. You're absolutely correct that there are other
possible bottlenecks -- page swapping due to lack of memory
is probably the most serious. Both Netscape and particularly
IE have suffered from serious memory leaks, which, of course, are
"all fixed now." Yeah, right, and I am really Elvis living
in Michigan under an assumed name ...

Sorry, I probably should have mentioned this earlier, but it's
just as well to have it stated separately. The subject is
confusing enough.
