Jim, the ex div date was more important in the days of actual paper being moved around. If you buy 100 shares in the last minute of rading on Fri 3/6, you will have 200 shares when the market opens on Mon 3/9. Otherwise even I would short Dell :-)<g>

Jim, but don't you get the shares even if you buy it say
Wednesday. What is the purpose of the record date? How
could they not give you the shares whenever you bought it.
I know this is probably a stupid question but I don't
understand the reason.
