Toshiba still uses their own chip set in DVD players. When they cost reduce, who knows....................................

Semp Toshiba to start selling DVD

Brazil - SABI via NewsEdge Corporation :
Semp Toshiba Informatica plans to start in
April production of DVD (Digital Video Disc)
players in a plant at Salvador, Bahia state.
The unit will also produce personal
computers, noteboooks, wireless telephones,
fax machines, and office equipment, and is
to absorb investments of R$50mil over the
next six years. Initially production will be
limited to 20,000 DVD units in 1998, while
the market is put for testing, and within six
years output is to reach 200,000 units py.
