LG multimedia chip incorporates merged SRAM. The article doesn't state the application for the chip. 1MB is too small for doing MPEG-2 video on chip............

LG Semicon Develops 1Mb Merged Logic SRAM Microchip
February 27, 1998 (SEOUL) -- LG Semicon Inc. developed a merged logic
1Mb static random access memory (SRAM) microchip, to be used in
high-capacity multimedia devices.

The new memory microchip can process data at a peak performance time of 3.5
nanoseconds, according to LG Semicon. The microchip features a circuit width of
0.35 microns.

To date, merged chip technology has been used in making dynamic random
access memory chips. The development of the merged SRAM chip will pave the
way for wider applications of memory semiconductors, the company said.

In a separate development, LG Semicon said it plans to sell some real estate
holdings to raise funds.

A company official said that as part of its restructuring efforts, LG Semicon will
sell its 100 billion won (US$60.60 million) headquarters building in downtown
Seoul and a plant site in Taejon, in southern Korea.

LG purchased its Taejon factory site in 1995, to build a production center for
256Mb DRAMs and other semiconductors. The site measures 234,000 sq.
meters.
