It is a plus for ibm, no doubt about it. I do not see why it is not a positive news for amd as well. The projected number of chips this year is somewhere between 10-13M chips. Amd's ultimate goal is 30% of the market which is close to 25M, I believe. It is always nice to establish presence in the market. IBM, on another hand, may be very reasonable in their deal since they want amd, imho, to capture this portion of the market.
We have had the similar sort of discussions last year. As Fuchi said, it is too bad that it took so long before ibm, compaq and amd actually took some actions. But better late than never.
