AL:

Management stinks. There is more to a company than debt and not all debt represents shot from the hip management. Developing companies with a good business plan require massive amount of capital as does nxtl. When the infrastructure is in place, the money flows. A friend of mine had the good fortune of getting involved in the wireless transmission towers along the Long Island Expressway in New York 20 years ago. These towers provide cell service througout the Long Island area. His customers include every major cell provider, along with the smr providers that give service to local governments. In the beginning he borrowed an enormous amount of money to put the infrastructure in place. If the venture failed he was bust, it didn't and he lives on a 60 foot custom made boat in Florida. Every month he receives no more than 30 checks and has less than 10 employees. Pure profit, he paid for those towers once and all the remainder is gravy. Nextel is doing the same thing on a much larger scale. If they would have waited to fund the build out thru cash flow, they would have been last over the finish line rather than first. Considering the competition in wireless, being less than first in tantamount to a death sentence.
No, I believe the McCaw family and nextel are world class mangement.
