ALMA, Colo., Feb. 27 (UPI) - A Colorado man is being held by police
after he allegedly shot and killed the former mayor of Alma, then drove
a front-end loader on a rampage through the town.
Sheriff's deputies say 50-year-old Thomas Leask, a former Alma city
worker, allegedly shot and killed former Mayor William Morrison Thursday
night. They say Leask then drove a front-end loader through the town's
post office and through doors at the town's fire station, water
department and town hall before going home and setting fire to his own
house.
He then took off into the woods, where he held deputies at bay for
nearly four hours before surrendering early today.
Authorities say they still aren't sure what sparked the alleged
killing and rampage but say Leask recently resigned from his job in the
small Rocky Mountain town, about 100 miles southwest of Denver.
Molotov cocktails were reportedly found inside the town hall, but
police say they don't know if Leask put them there, or if he intended to
ignite them.
Leask is being held at the Park County Detention Center in Fairplay,
Colo.
