The true definition of taking a naked short position is that the market maker does not borrow the stock that they are shorting. It has nothing to do with options.

There is over 400,000 shares short. If your account is marked to the market on the middle and the end of the month, you would want the price to be low otherwise a margin call would be generated for your short position. The price of 7 1/4 is better than 9 for a short position at the end of the month. That is over $700,000.00 american money.

The volume of 115,000 divided by 2 equals the 57,500. This is supposed to be the true volume, but this is not real most of the time. The only way to tell the true shares traded is review the books of the market makers. The true number of shares traded for real investors might only be 20,000 shares today. The market makers can jack up the volume by trade back an forth between them with no real actual trades.
