WJ,, I saw a couple of news clips at work today about Suharto not complying with the IMF restrictions and how the person the US is sending over there was relatively powerless to do anything about it. It was sort of laughable . It was the old story of owing so much money that the bank was in trouble.

Male jobless rate hits record 3.7% in Japan

The overall employment picture remained bleak in January, the Management and
Coordination Agency says.

The unemployment rate for men hit a record high of 3.7 percent in January, up 0.3 percentage point
from December, while the overall jobless rate remained at a record high of 3.5 percent for the
fourth consecutive month, the government reported today.

An official with the Management and Coordination Agency said the nation's employment picture has
deteriorated further.
