The Dell shut down of lines can not be related to DVD-ROM problems. The math doesn't work. There are about about 64 production days in each quarter. To do close to 2M units in a quarter, Dell's lines need to produce 31K units each day.

DVD is an option. Its run rate would be about 500 to 1,000 units per day. For 3 days that's 1,500 to 3,000 units. The lines would keep running, if they had a DVD problem, and produce the other 30+K with CD-ROM. It would take one hour of overtime to produce the missing DVD-ROM units, not working on the weekend. To work on the weekend, Dell needs to be short 30K or 60K units.
