DELL announces building plans.

(from Austin American-Statesman, Monday, March 2, page D1)

Dell Computer Corp. is expected to announce today constructions plans for a 300,000-square-foot manufacturing plant in Northeast Austin.

Last week, the Austin City Council voted to accelerate road, sewer and other improvements near a 570-acre campus DELL plans between Howard Lane and Yager Lane east of Interstate 35. The campus falls in the city's Desired Development Zone, a large region on the east side of Austin where city officials hope to direct growth.

Dell will build servers and workstations at the plant, which initially would employ 400 to 600 people and may be the first of several manufacturing facilities on the campus.

Construction is expected to begin in March.
