I researched "the online outfits, the local screwdriver shops and distributors, and the major chain stores" and found Dell's prices to be laughable. I was looking at the low end, though.

David,

You will soon discover that Dell DOES charge sales tax. They have for years. I'm not sure if they are required to or not, but they do.

David - Re: "That Jim Patterson is a complete idiot shorting Dell and trying..."

Of course he is - he seems to have lost big time. He hasn't admitted it yet, but I'll bet good money he shorted Intel when it was in the $70s . He has that desperate tone of a know it all who blew it all.

Just when you get rid of one Fiondella, another one comes along!

Re: Intel being down -

My assumption is that it is due to the AMD- IBM deal - where those "in-the-know" think this will finally be the dagger into the heart of Intel.

In reality, this is Sanders grasping for a life preserver as the Good Ship AMD lists to starboard.

There was an additional news report that Compaq was having inventory problems - in the channel. I hate that jingo - people should just say their products aren't selling well.

That Compaq news story hit on Thursday and may have had some back-effect on Intel on Thursday & Friday.

However, Friday evening several more news reports stated the exact opposite - many PC dealers were quoted as saying that Compaq boxes were sold out and they could not get enough inventory to replace them.

Go figure!

This will all get sorted out at earnings report time in early April.
