A few comments on the WIRED article...

"They bring a number of things," Vanderlip said. "The first is enthusiasm, the second is capital - but the most important is the strategic fit. EchoMedia has some terrific, state-of-the-art banner technology that we plan to introduce to our network within the next 45 to 60 days. And our sales staff can work to get their technology out there to other clients."

45 to 60 days from Jan 6 is about from now to mid March. Keep in mind that stuffing those new ad types into the sales pipeline and getting them onto customers sites may take a while. Just because there's a new car on the show floor doesn't mean everybody immediately buys it. It may take a month or so before the impact can be felt.

But despite giving Softbank some new capital and renewed momentum, the Zulu-tek purchase doesn't answer the biggest question about the business of building networks of Web sites and then selling ads into them. As Neufeld puts it, "Is there a future to this? Can you make money doing it?"

This uncertainty is important to remember. I don't think '98 will be the most taxing year for NETZ. This year they're spreading their money over several places. There may be a one or two year 'wait and see' attitude from the biggest potential customers. This will no doubt present a strain to all players in NETZ field. But in three years I think we will see worries from the newspaper- and TV-businesses that the net is bleeding ad-dollars from them.

Other than that I like the feeling of large amounts of money that is vaguely hinted at in the text. Uncorroborated but nice nevertheless.
