IMPRISTINE, "we are not bankers", is actually a problem for ASMLF, since US Semi Equip manufacturers are trying to find ways to "become bankers". If Hyundai, LG Semi and Samsung, do more deals like Symbios, they may be able to raise the money needed for upgrades, if not, their participation in the DRAM business may have to wind down. There is still over capacity in the segment and upgrading, while beneficial short term to the DUV crowd will just exacerbate the over supply situation. Interesting times, since the technicals for the semi are quite opposite the fundamentals, and in this case, it is wise to listen to the technicals (until they change <VBG>).

I looks as the Koreans (as we all guessed) cannot afford to fall behind the rest of the industry. They don't like buying from outside the country. Only their investment in the cutting edge of production technology can assure they will have competitive consumer end products and reduce the need for importing integral components necessary in the manufacture of those products.

The reduction of energy costs should also be very beneficial to the asian industries.
