Michelle, >>>Fwiw, my opinion is that in the enterprise software arena this situation with foreign workers is simply a cost issue. The technology became so complex and difficult that people who could do it started to make more money, and the employers don't want to pay.<<<

IMHO, the foreign workers are probably getting the same pay as a US worker (if the job is in the US). I think employers like the foreign workers because they are happy to get the job and are willing to stay at that level for a far longer period than most US employees with the same qualifications.

Of course, most of nihil's Ivy League graduates would not dream of starting at such a low level. They would want to start, at least, by hiring, managing, and telling these workers what to do and then become a senior officer in line to succeed the CEO within a few years. They would bypass a lot of the drudgery and get to the big money real quick. That is the American dream.

The foreign workers would have to forego the short cut and later send their kids to the right schools so they too wouldn't have to get their hands dirtied.
