Jay, I respectfully submit that you have a flawed logic assumption; that is, that the depression children are voluntarily moving their assets to the boomers. I'm constantly having to point out that there is a reason that hearses don't have luggage racks. Further, many of the Depression Children believe that estate planning is setting up a Living Trust.

The figure I saw regarding the potential inter-generational transfer is in the order of $10T. I believe this helps explain why banks are going around gobbling up the regional brokerage firms. I would also note that three of the stocks in my model portfolio are brokerage firms.

But, I think we need to focus on the subject of the thread - Value Investing. Frankly, I believe that an incredible amount of research and well-formulated opinions are going to be flowing onto this thread over the next couple of months. I have seen some of the work products in this area and have been impressed.

I think that the premise of your questions are of great importance. It is important for a "value" investor to identify future trends before they become fashionable investments.
