Dear David;

Certainly a company does not have the right to access an employee's AOL account, and I do not mean to imply that it can. But the company does have the right and the ability to know that an employee is accessing AOL on company time. That is all I meant in my reply to you. I hope this clears up the misunderstanding between you and me.

True, as long as it is not on company's time! The company has absolutely the right to monitor how the employee is spending his/her time during working hours (after all the employee is on its patroll). And if all he/she does during the working hours to browse for example the SI threads (!!!) using company's equipment (e.g. PC) but using his/her AOL account (for example), then the company has the absolute right to take whatever action it wants to stop that! It is not a question of big brother watching, but rather the little brother taking advantage of the big brother with absolutely no regards and respect to the big brother!
