I particularly liked this part and I quote:

"One of British Columbia's major home-grown high-technology companies, MDA was bought in 1995 by Orbital Sciences Corp. of Dulles, Va., a major U.S. space hardware company.

Friedmann said MDA expects to purchase the basic satellite "off the shelf" from Orbital Sciences. Subcontracts for the hardware and software it carries will be spread across Canada.

Pretty much the same story from Toronto Globe so I just highlight
last part which i thought wasn't in the Vancouver paper

MacDonald Dettwiler to build, run Earth observer
Saturday, February 28, 1998

VANCOUVER -- MacDonald Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. of Richmond, B.C., has won a major contract from the federal government to build and operate the $305-million Radarsat II Earth observation satellite.

<same stuff as Vancover paper deleted>

Mr. Evans said that while Radarsat I generated annual revenue of about $10-million, Radarsat II promises to bring in sales of about 10 times that amount.

Dwight-- I'm, of course, delighted by the news. That's why I bought the stock -- I feel there will be more and more good news since ORBI is in a rapidly growing area and has a dominant position. In fact, when I think of how much information is crammed into a cubic foot of air by all the transmissions (orbital and nonorbital), my mind boggles. I have no prediction of price since I usually look for long-term gains. I did hold this stock, tho, for about 2-3 years with essentially no gains.

If the company looks good, why sell at a predetermined price? Altho I don't do this, every day we should ask if our money is doing the right thing for us. Again, many of the mistakes I have made were when emotion interfered. I became macho and felt my stock will go back up instead of admitting I was wrong.

good investing -- fred
