Looks like Portland General Electric has no problems with using CheckFrees name....In a local paper I see they had 4,000 customers already for E-Bill. So if they announce 100's of new banks and billers this year how many customers would that be? Power on, PGE Portland General Electric Co. customers can now pay their bills via computer instead of dropping a check in the mail. Of course, your computer will consume electricity while it's bill paying. Just consider it a convenience charge. The local utility claims to be the first company in the Northwest to offer customers CheckFree E-Bill service. "Now, people can use the internet instead of the U.S. mail to do business with us," said Nancy Miller, payment options specialist with PGE. "For many people, on-line transactions are more convenient." Customers can sign up for the service by logging onto PGE's web site at pge-online.com and following the "easy" instructions. Enrolled customers can view their bill on-line by entering their user name and password. Customers using PowerCheck, PGE's automatic payment program, or other home banking services can still receive a bill on-line. PGE said the site where customers enroll is secured with encrypted transmissions. Customers may need to download a free 128-bit encryption feature for their web browser. Currently, PGE has around 4,000 customers using the service. "The ability to conduct safe, electronic commerce will serve PGE well," Miller said. "CheckFree E-Bill allows us to be more cost effective while providing customers with an innovative, environmentally friendly and convenient payment program." pge-online.com
