>>Following a strategy made famous by Micron Technology Inc. (Boise,
Idaho), several top-tier Korean and Japanese semiconductor
manufacturers recently said they plan to cut the cost of producing
16-Mbit SDRAMs by shrinking the size of the die to 0.25-micron line
widths, the same process used to build 64-Mbit devices today. Vendorsand
analysts said the move arises from the need to gain some short-termprofits from the
16-Mbit devices as many companies limit their capital
expenditures to process improvements rather than capacity expansions.<<

ok, larry, this is bad for mu. mu's mo is to wait until everybody crosses over and then is a major player making money in the old tech. this won't happen now. decreasing the die size gretaly increases supply. looks nasty going forward.

>>'Tough to make money'
Indeed, "With the cost of a 16-Mbit device $2.85 to $3 in the spot
market and contract prices at $4 to $5, it's tough to make money," said
Mario Morales, a senior analyst with International Data Corp. (Mountain View, Calif.).
"Micron, however, can get 1,000 die per wafer. Everyone else is at 750 to 500
using 0.4 or 0.35-micron, so Micron is making money at those price points
right now."<<

ok, this guy is a dolt. his advice and a $1.50 will get you turned away at starbucks ;-) mu was essentially breakeven with an asp of $4.80. add another $0.20/sh expense for dep and amort that starts this q forward and you get a comparative loss of about $0.15 for last q.

now they are making money three months later with an asp in the $3s - 33% less than last q? the american public is so dumb. how do these dolts get paid year after year? these dolts need to get fired for being so dumb and having no shame.

as for contract pricing being $1.00+ more than spot pricing for more than two weeks (two weeks qualifies as BFD)... i thought the medicinal marijuana houses were being shut down. nobody told this guy yet? ;-)

oh and larry, somebody railed on me for not knowing what xlnx did when i said their price was too high. the fact that they didn't grow eps above 0% for 18 months had no bearing on their ability to maintain a 45 pe for eternity. why? b/c their product was neato.

all the pros and experts have been so wrong about this market they all should be canned. i have worked anywhere from 40-80+ hours a week over the past 6 months in a completely different industry and admittedly know a lot less of the mfg details and I WAS RIGHT! not about the past. about the future back in august/sept...

many other people that do the same were spot on. the experts are easily manipulated dolts. in the case of tk, he is a manipulative dolt. at least i'll give him credit for knowing what is up. i believe he knew the truth and just railroaded everyone for a sweet profit. AND THE DOLT WALL STREET CHUMPIES STILL LOVE HIM!!!! go figure.

let the selling continue...

Yes ! I am too stupid to do F/A !

Larry, you make a compelling case for following the trend, given the difficulty of accurately comprehending all the factors and consequences involved in FA. However, I do believe that the trend at large represents the fundamentals. The market collectively understands the fundamentals better than the few here. The fact just happens to be that the fringe elements that run rampant here (bears, largely) will claim that all the facts that you have underscored are either irrelevant for their FA or not acceptable (such as the one about micron being the low cost producer). Clearly, skeeter and his cohorts will ignore your highlights, if only to have a basis to question anything bullish about MU (g).
